springtime of my second life: by deborah ross

This is a colored pencil drawing. colored pencil! Can you imagine how long it took Deborah Ross to create this piece? Goodness. I haven't used colored pencil in a long time, but I remember an assignment in school long ago that involved self-portaits and colored pencils, and it took forever! So i can appreciate the patience it must have taken to create this piece.

Deborah says:

This self portrait has symbols that relate to my life, the new beginning I have been given, the freshness of spring symbolized by the robin, the wonder of metamorphosis. The meaning of those symbols are universal, and I think anyone could find a sense of abundance in my piece.

Check out more of her artwork on her blog, and she also has a self-portrait blog featuring many other artists' work.

*Thanks, Deborah!*
